Last night Alfred's own Dave Flynn (a senior in the School of Art and Design) transported Harder Hall's courtyard into a mystical land of "spicy wonderment and uncontrollable dance" with the GRAND OPENING of EL BODEGA. His installation project takes the form of a functioning roadside southwestern market, with hand-crafted objects for sale...as well as great spicy food. The proceeds will go to benefit Alfred's Art History Club.

Visiting Artist Wayne Husted:

Wayne started his journey when he enrolled in a pre-med course at Mohawk College in Utica, New York. After a year, which included night courses in painting and sculpture, he transferred to Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. While he was on summer vacation, a high school guidance counselor led him to Alfred University. The design department only accepted about forty new freshmen out of about 1,500 applications. Wayne’s father gathered up a portfolio of Wayne’s work and drove eight hours for a meeting with Charles Harder, who was the head of Alfred’s Ceramic Design Department. The fortunate coincidence turned out to be that Alfred actually preferred students without prior formal art training. Wayne then spent the next five years (1947-1952) at Alfred. The generation of classes behind Wayne included Winslow Anderson and Glidden Parker. Wayne graduated with a double undergraduate degree (a B.A. in English and a B.F.A. in Industrial Ceramic Design), followed by an M.F.A. in Industrial Ceramic Design.

Wayne began at Blenko on April Fool’s Day in 1952. Upon meeting William Blenko, Sr., Wayne told him that he had no experience with glass. William’s response, typical of his personality, was, “Great! Then you’ll try things you wouldn’t try if you knew something about glass.”

Each year for ten years at Blenko, Wayne came up with fifty to sixty designs. One of Wayne’s designs won an award in the Corning Museum competition and was featured in “Glass 1959”. Wayne became known for the huge bottles and decanters that came to typify the glass of that period.

Wayne remained at Blenko until January 1963 after designing the 1963 line. After thirty six years, Wayne returned to Blenko in 1999.

Wayne’s work is highly collectible, as noted by Leslie Pina, Ph.D.: “Collectors have sought after Wayne Husted’s designs more than any other.” Leslie is the author of three books on Blenko Glass.

Wayne’s Olana glass pieces are three-dimensional paintings in glass. Each piece is an abstract composition with the added dimensions of space and refracted light.

Unlike studio glass facilities, Blenko is the only factory in America that melts large pots of glass simultaneously. And each of the many Blenko glass pots offers a singular rich, transparent, and liquid color. This allows for a much freer and broader approach to creating in glass than that of studio glass artists who are limited to applying colored crayon like rods to crystal. The liquid glassiness of the colors of the Olana line is the result of that discovery and the challenge as well as the opportunity that it presents.

Alfred University's 5th Annual Meltdown! Iron Pour Convention

The School of Art & Design at Alfred University hosted Meltdown! The Fifth Annual Iron Pour and Metal Casting Convention on Saturday, Oct. 29.

From noon until 6 p.m. attendees enjoyed live demonstrations displaying techniques and processes related to the casting and molding of molten metal, as well as, a student exhibition of metal works entitled "All Star Cast." Visitors watched as 3,000 pounds of molten iron was poured at 2,750 degrees Fahrenheit to make a wide variety of sculptural forms.

In addition to Alfred University students, students and faculty from the following schools also participated in the conference: RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology; Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs; State University of New York at Cortland; Buffalo State; Binghamton University; Salem Art Works; and John Jay University, Manhattan.

Visiting artist Roberto Visani, chairman of art at John Jay University, was also a participant.

New Yorkers are accustomed to “pop-up shops,” stores open on a short-term basis while entrepreneurs test a concept. But how about a “pop-up” gallery? That’s what Alfred University’s School of Art & Design is creating in vacant space on the first floor of the Gem Hotel, 300 W. 22nd St.

Profile 2010: The School of Art & Design at Alfred will be open to the public June 9-16. Gallery hours are 11 am -6 pm daily except Sunday, June 13.

While Alfred University’s art school is internationally known, particularly for its ceramic and glass art programs, many NY metro area residents are not familiar with it. “We wanted to give a broader audience an opportunity to see the incredible work the students at Alfred do,” said Dr. Mary Drach McInnes, interim dean of the School of Art & Design at Alfred University.

“We were intrigued by the possibility of creating a temporary gallery space that would allow the School of Art & Design at Alfred to bring the work our students do to a wider audience,” said McInnes.

Co-curators for the show are McInnes and Kevin Jacobs, a career specialist in Alfred University's Career Development Center. Jacobs, who is also director of the Cohen Gallery on the Alfred campus, is in charge of setting up the temporary gallery space. His specialty area in the Career Development Center is working with AU's art students.

The work included in Profile 2010 represents the full range of what the School of Art & Design has to offer, including: drawing, painting, print-making, photography, digital art, video, ceramics, glass and sculpture. The School offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, as well as Master of Fine Arts degrees in ceramic art, electronic integrated art, and sculpture/dimensional studies, including glass. The MFA program in ceramic art is consistently ranked tops in the country by US News and World Report, which also ranks the glass art program second, and the MFA program 10th overall.

MFA graduates whose work is included the exhibition are: Giselle Hicks and Brian Tyler, ceramics; Jason Bernagozzi and Moyi Zhang, electronic integrated arts; and Sarah Hoitsma and Joanna Manousis, sculpture.

BFA graduates are: : Laura Bettina, Allison Craver, Alexander Contino, Katherine Coughlin, Maxwell Davis, Amanda Fazzino, Olivia Getkowski, Arthur Guilford, Elizabeth Helfer, Anne Mills, Sarah Nikitopoulos, James Pastore, Amelia Patsy, Sondra Perry, Steven Randall, Sarah Roberts, Jonathan Sudler, Kaye Waltman, Alex Williams, and Thomas Wulf.

An opening reception will be 6-9 p.m. on June 9 in the gallery space at 300 W. 22nd St., New York, NY. Alfred University staff and students will be available to answer questions during regular gallery hours.

This exhibition is made possible by a gift from Marty and Michele Cohen, whose son Adam is a 2003 alumnus of the School of Art & Design at Alfred University. Michele Cohen is a member of the Alfred University Board of Trustees and of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.

The School of Art & Design is part of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, which administers the College on behalf of the state.

"Tension/Second Skin": Work by the Intro to Sculpture Class

The Monday/Tuesday section of the Introduction to Sculpture Class recently completed as assignment called "Tension/Second Skin". The project focused on teaching the students basic MIG welding, brazing and metal fabrication techniques, as well as hand and machine sewing, paper making and felting. Using standard 1/4” round stock or 2” flat stock, they were asked to weld an armature over which another material (such as paper, fabric, wool, latex, plastic bags or other found objects) could be stretched taught. Their final objects were supposed to convey the idea of tension, either formally or conceptually. Here are a few examples of their work, and more can be seen on their class blog.

Students in the Thursday/Friday class had a great turn out at their "Manufactured Landscapes" exhibition at the Village Hall on April 10th. Their work was inspired by their research of a particular location and the natural resources or narratives derived from it. They used information gained from a 3-week computer modeling and rapid prototyping workshop, in addition to newly acquired woodworking and metal fabrication techniques, to construct mixed media sculptures or manmade "landscapes". The students then curated and installed the exhibition and opened it to the public for two days. This 3 week course provides a unique opportunity to explore an expanding contemporary art form within a rich tradition. Students will experience the art and act of iron casting from the ground up by learning how to build and operate an 800# Iron Cupola Furnace, make molds, cast and finish sculpture. Skills taught include furnace building, welding, wax working, ceramic shell, sand molding, Iron Pour preparation, casting iron, metal finishing, chasing and patination. Students will have the freedom to experiment, no experience necessary.

Intro to Sculpture Field Trip to Pittsburgh, PA

Both sections of the Introduction to Sculpture classes recently went on an overnight field trip to Pittsburgh, PA. The group was taken on a whirlwind tour... they saw an MFA Thesis exhibition at Carnegie Mellon University, hung out in the South Side on Friday night, went to the Andy Warhol Museum to see some pop art, the Mattress Factory Museum to see some installation art, stopped by the Artists Image Resource to check out a fundraising event, and visited the artist Lenka Clayton in her studio. Good times were had by all.

Join Dr. Austin as he discusses the American Arts and Crafts Movement in New York State. This Movement of "mission" design gained popularity as a decorative style (furniture, ceramics, metal, lighting, textiles, jewelry) beginning in 1900, and by 1920 had gone out of style. Arts and Crafts, however, was more than simply a decorative style - it was also a philosophy, an ethos, a way of living, and significantly, an enormous business.

This presentation, accompanied by slides, affords listeners an opportunity to gain awareness and knowledge of the Movement, its philosophy and creative product, and focuses on the unique contributions of Arts and Crafts creators in New York State. Attendees are welcome to bring an Arts and Crafts object to add to the discussion.

This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities' Speakers in the Humanities program.

Visiting Artist: Jeff Kalstrom

Our Foundry Visiting Artist Jeff Kalstrom will be at Alfred for the upcoming week working on multi piece sand molding and casting new work. His visit is funded by a grant from the Minnesota arts Council, where he resides. He is a nationally recognized sculptor who works on public art projects and cast iron sculpture.

He will be giving a talk about his work at 6pm on Thursday, April 8th in BMH Room C.

Lecture: "Maoism, the Fifth Republic, and the Posters of May 1968" by Dr. Victoria H.F. Scott

The Division of Art History presents a lecture by Dr. Victoria H. F. Scott titled "Silk Screens and Television Screens: Maoism, the Fifth Republic, and the Posters of May 1968." Dr. Scott, who has taught at The College of William and Mary and at Binghamton University, is an expert on the art produced during the student and worker's revolt of May 1968 in France.

Dr. Scott will lecture on Wednesday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The CUBE: April 2nd- May 4th

Students of the Intro to Sculpture (255-02) class will be presenting a month-long, rotating exhibition of installations. Members of the class have built an 8 foot cube located in the Harder Hall courtyard (next to the graffiti wall). From April 2nd through May 4th students (individually and as groups) will transform this space through a format of site-specific installation. Sibley Lecture: "Savoring Disgust: The Foul and the Fair in Aesthetics" by Dr. Carolyn Korsmeyer

Dr. Carolyn Korsmeyer, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Buffalo, will deliver her lecture, “Savoring Disgust: The Foul and the Fair in Aesthetics” on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in Nevin’s Theatre. This topic comes from her recent research on disgust as an aesthetic response. Korsmeyer has published in many areas of aesthetics and feminist theory including the monographs, "Making Sense of Taste: Taste, Food, and Philosophy" and "Gender and Aesthetics: An Introduction".

Abstract:"Of all the emotions that art can arouse, the one that has traditionally been ruled out for positive aesthetic uses is disgust. Yet at the same time, we can easily find art works that arouse disgust in the course of a narrative or a visual presentation: tragedies, war stories, and horror movies, for example. More subtly, and paradoxically, disgust may be an ingredient of works of art that we find beautiful. The widely varying depictions of the human heart supply a set of examples to support this case. This lecture will
consider disgust and its peculiar history in aesthetic theory and defend its often-overlooked contribution to experiences of aesthetic insight and beauty."

The Sibley Lecture series at Alfred University was established in memory of Myron Sibley, the first professor of philosophy hired at AU. Sibley taught at Alfred for more than 30 years and was highly regarded as a professor and member of the community. The lecture is sponsored by the Division of Human Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

"Ectoparasites": Student work from the Spring '10 Introduction to Sculpture Class

Using "ectoparasites" as their inspiration for their first assignment, the Intro to Sculpture students were asked to find an existing wood object that they could use as a “host organism”. They were then required to construct and integrate (not just attach) an “ectoparasite” of their own design. They were provided with a piece of basswood (12”W x 30”L x 1”D)that they had to incorporate into the construction using at least one of the glued wood joinery techniques practiced in class. The final object or installation was to be floor-standing, and could incorporate other media than the wood provided. Here are some examples of their work, and more can be seen on their class blog.

Dr. Hassan is Goldwin Smith Professor and Director of the Africana Studies and Research Center, and professor of African and African diaspora art in the History of Art and Visual Studies department at Cornell University. He has written, edited and co-edited several books including Darfur and the Crisis of Governance in Sudan (2009); Diaspora, Memory, Place (2008); Unpacking Europe (2001); Authentic/Ex-Centric (2001); Gendered Visions (1997); and Art and Islamic Literacy among the Hausa of Northern Nigeria (1992).

All money raised will be donated to a legitimate charity working with the earthquake victims.

You and members of the community are invited to participate in making their own 'relief sculpture'. With the help of foundry students you will be able to carve your own unique design which will then be cast in metal. This is open to adults and children with adult supervision; Anyone can do it for a small donation to Haiti relief!

Or you can just come watch the action too! All of the sculptures made will be cast that day and participants will be able to take their 'relief sculpture' home with them.

Alongside the casting of the relief sculptures will be several other exciting fundraising events including music, 'Guild Cheese' sandwiches, toasted marshmallows, 'Art Auction' and a 'Raffle' of goods and services donated by local businesses.

"Initially, the goal of the Introduction to Glass Blowing course is to provide the student an experience that will establish a foundational understanding of the techniques and processes of working with molten glass. However, the primary aim is to broaden the student’s artistic growth by utilizing this material and the techniques used to shape it to convey meaning through works of sculptural significance and personal resonance. Students will be exposed to a variety of traditional solid and blown shaping methods and encouraged to develop innovative ways of applying them within their studio practice. During the semester, the student will also be introduced to the Cold Shop and oriented in the proper way of using the equipment to "finish" or further manipulate his or her pieces. Class time will be used for demonstrations, slideshows, individual meeting time with instructors, group discussion and the occasional opportunity to conduct student work." - David Schnuckel

"Mutation": Mold making and casting projects by Intro to Sculpture students

Students in the sophomore-level Introduction to Sculpture class recently completed an assignment which required them to “mutate” an existing object or group of objects in three distinct phases. The mold making and casting techniques taught in class were used in at least one of those steps. They were strongly encouraged to begin working on the assignment without having planned or predicted their final result, but instead to work progressively and intuitively. They installed their projects in the sculpture gallery, sculpture "box" and cell space for their final group critique with their instructor, Alicia Eggert. Here are a few examples of their work. Visiting Artist Lecture: Julie Langsam

Julie Langsam, visiting painter, will give a public lecture on her work at 12:15 Friday Nov. 13th in Binns-Merrill Room C. All are invited to attend.

Painter Julie Langsam has recently moved back to her home on the east coast to teach at Mason Gross School of the Arts, at Rutgers. Previously she had been living, working and teaching in Cleveland, Ohio where she was the Motto Chair and Head of Painting at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

As an artist, Langsam has had numerous exhibitions including a solo museum show at MOCA Cleveland; is the recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award; and is representedin many collections throughout the US. She is represented by Frederieke Taylor Gallery in New York City. Among Langsam’s other activities she recently curated the exhibition Color As Structure; and has co-curated such exhibitions as Arte Povera: American Style; House: Case Study Cleveland; and It’s a Wonderful Life: Psychodrama in ContemporaryPainting, among others.

Wearable sculpture projects and performances by Intro to Sculpture students

Students in the sophomore level Introduction to Sculpture class were asked to make a wearable sculpture for their Halloween Dance Party exhibition in the Turner Gallery on October 30th. Their performance of the object (their movement and behavior while wearing it) was stressed to be equally as important as the craft of the object itself, and accounted for 50% of their grade. Their performances lasted for 1 1/2 hours the night of the opening, and varied immensely. Here are some examples of their work (portraits taken by Mike Fleming).

"The Miniature": Cast metal sculpture by students in the junior level foundry class

Students in the junior level class at the foundry were asked to find an object small enough to fit into the palm of their hand, and respond to it with a sculptural project that "captures the most vital and interesting qualities of that object". Their final project was allowed to be a series of cast parts or could have taken the form of an installation incorporating other materials with the casting. Here are some examples of their work, which they installed in the sculpture gallery spaces for their midterm critique with their instructor, Coral Lambert.

Visiting Artist: Rebecca Chernow

Rebecca Chernow is a studio artist currently residing in Seattle, WA. Her work is largely concerned with questioning the value of commodities and how interpersonal relationships mimic those between individuals and familiar utilitarian objects.

Rebecca is an active member of the Northwest studio glass community, teaching hot, cold, and warm glass processes to both adults and youth, and assisting select artists in the execution of their art works. She has been an artist in residence at Northlands Creative Glass Centre in Lybster, Scotland, a visiting artist at the Tacoma Museum of Glass, and was the recipient of the Proctor Fellowship to travel to and create new works at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia in 2008. Originally from upstate New York, she received her BFA from Alfred University and has exhibited her work within the United States and internationally since graduating in 2003.

"I am interested in the concept and existence of the "throw-away" culture and where I, an active member as both a producer and consumer, intersect with it. As an artist working primarily in glass, I operate in a costly and specialized medium. A large portion is not reusable and the production processes create a significant impact on the environment that others unfamiliar with the material are unaware of.

I seek to draw similarities between the manufacturing of this particularly seductive luxury and the familiar disposable commodities that are often created and discarded mindlessly, their significance forgotten after the initial purpose or purchase is completed. It is my intention to use my specific medium as a means to interpret how personal identity and perception of value are shaped by the relationships we form with the objects we interact with."

Kinetics Projects by Intro to Sculpture Students

The students in the Introduction to Sculpture class recently displayed kinetic work in the Harder Hall Lobby. Their assignment was to make a wall-mounted sculpture that explores the idea of duration, either formally or conceptually. They were supplied with one 12V DC 10RPM motor, one 12V DC power supply, and one shaft coupling. The intent of the assignment was to teach them very basic information about electronics, kinetics, and the various movements that can be achieved with a low RPM motor. Rachael Wong Receives 2009 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award

Alfred University graduate student Rachael Wong ('09) was one of 11 recipients of this year's Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award, given by the International Sculpture Center. Her work is featured in this month's issue of Sculpture magazine and is part of an exhibition at the Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ.

The ISC established the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award program in 1994 to recognize deserving sculpture students and to encourage their continued commitment to the field of sculpture. The jurors for the 2009 award include David McFadden, Curator, the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY; Jeanne Jaffe, Professor and Chair of Fine Arts, University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA; and Willie Cole, sculptor, New Jersey.

The International Sculpture Center honored this year’s winners at its annual awards presentation and private reception showcasing their sculpture works at the Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. The show will run from October 10, 2009 to January 10, 2010. The work will also be featured in the first annual traveling exhibition and will visit The Salt Lake Art Center in Utah and the BlueStar Contemporary Art Center in Texas.

Visiting Curator: Dr. Lowery Stokes Sims

With a long and distinguished career in the arts, Dr. Lowery Stokes Sims is known for her expertise in African, Latino, Native, and Asian American artists. She became the first African American curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has been instrumental in building the museum's collection. Currently, she is the Charles Bronfman curator at the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC.

All are invited to Dr. Sims' presentation on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 12:20-1:10 p.m., at Holmes Auditorium.

This wee little residence was fabricated primarily from recycled and reclaimed materials on top of a flat bed trailer. "A Matter of Form" opening at the Cohen Center

“A Matter of Form,” an exhibition of work by Kathleen Mulcahy and Ron Desmett, will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Cohen Center Gallery, 55 N. Main St., Alfred.

Mulcahy and Desmett, glass artists from Oakdale, PA, will present a gallery talk at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall, on the AU campus. The show continues through Oct. 16, with hours by appointment. For more information, contact Kevin Jacobs at jacobsj@alfred.edu.

For Mulcahy, it is a return to her alma mater; she earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art & Design at Alfred University in 1974. For the past 15 years, Mulcahy and Desmett have worked as independent artists on projects for installations in private glass collections, homes, corporate offices, public art projects and solo exhibitions throughout the United States. They are recipients of several awards, including those from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Mid-Atlantic Art Foundation and the Fulbright Foundation.

Prior to that, Mulcahy and Desmett developed and helped build the Pittsburgh Glass Center, an internationally recognized public access glass institution. They remain active as members of the Artistic Leadership Team, and have been named Permanent Artists-in-Residence at the Center. Earlier this year, their collaborative work, Crossings 1982, was acquired by the Renwick Galleries at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

Mulcahy, who earned a B.A. in arts education at Kean University in Union, NJ, before entering the master’s program at Alfred University, was named a “distinguished alumna in the arts” by Kean Alumni Association in 2005. She is a member of the International Women’s Forum and was honored as being one of the “Women in the Arts: 36 Founders, Pioneers, Instigators,” in Pittsburgh in 2007. Her work is found in many private and public collections, including those at the American Craft Museum, New York and The Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY.

A graduate of the University of Akron (OH) with a B.S. in art education, Desmett earned an MFA in sculpture from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. A painter and mixed media artist as well as a glass artist, Desmett has work in the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; the Cleveland (OH) Museum of Art and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. He has received several fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and a Masterwork Fellowship from the Creative Glass Center of America, Millville, NJ.

The Cohen Center was created by the generous gifts of Michele and Martin Cohen, parents of Adam Cohen, who earned a BFA from the School of Art & Design at Alfred University in 2003.

The School of Art & Design at Alfred University is one of top-ranked in the country. Its MFA in ceramic art is ranked first in the nation, and its MFA in glass art is tied for second in the nation by US News and World Report.

"Material Matters" was an installation created for the Ohio Art League. It was a collaboration between 7 artists that came to know each other through OSU's glass art program. This show came about as an reaction to the traditional and sterile white walled art gallery setting in which we wanted to create something new and non-pedestal oriented.

Habitat DEVASTION + Artistic IMAGINATION = Environmental RESTORATION

Linda Weintraub will present the diverse and inspiring strategies that contemporary artists are developing to unpollute the waters, detoxify the landfills, and reverse the effects of careless industrial expansion. She is the author of Avant-Guardians: Textlets in Art and Ecology.

Linda Weintraub is a curator, educator, artist, and author of several popular books about contemporary art. She is currently writing the fourth book in her eco-art series that is titled Avant-Guardians: Textlets in Art and Ecology. The three books are EcoCentric Topics: Pioneering Themes for Eco-Art; Cycle-Logical Art: Recycling Matters for Eco-Art; EnvironMentalities: Twenty-two Approaches to Eco-Art. Weintraub established Artnow Publications in order to apply environmental responsibility to the books’ material production, as well as the content of the text. This series is designed to highlight and accelerate the integration of environmental principles throughout university art pedagogy.

Weintraub is the author of In The Making: Creative Options for Contemporary Artists (2003) (co-published by D.A.P. in NY and Thames & Hudson in the UK), Art on the Edge and Over: Searching for Art’s Meaning in Contemporary Society (1995, Insights Press). The exhibition "IS IT ART?" was mounted in conjunction with the book and toured nationally from 1995 and 1997. From 1982 - 1993, Weintraub served as the first director of the Edith C. Blum Art Institute located on the Bard College campus where she originated fifty exhibitions and published over twenty catalogues. Previously she served as the Director of the Philip Johnson Center for the Arts at Muhlenberg College. She was the Henry Luce Professor of Emerging Arts at Oberlin College. She is curator and co-author of Lo and Behold: Visionary Art in the Post-Modern Era, Process and Product: The Making of Eight Contemporary Masterworks, Landmarks: New Site Proposals by Twenty Pioneers of Environmental Art, Art What Thou Eat: Images of Food in American Art, and The Maximal Implications of the Minimal Line. Since leaving Bard College Weintraub co-curated an internationally touring exhibition entitled "ANIMAL. ANIMA. ANIMUS" with Marketta Sepalla and "THE ART OF BODY CRAFTING". She has taught both contemporary art history and studio art and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Rutgers University.

Weintraub has recently served as curator for four ecologically-inspired exhibitions: Demo Eco M.O. applies sustainability to all aspects of art exhibition; Thirty-Below: Eco Project Runway invites students and community members to design clothing that is ‘warm’ (functional), ‘hot’ (sustainable), and ‘cool’ (fashionable); Teeny Green challenges artists to create art with minimal material presence; and AHOY! Where Lies Henry Hudson involves renowned architects who are challenged to produce outdoor memorials for Henry Hudson without purchasing any materials.

Lyn Carter's sculpture of stretched fabric and Ani Hoover's process paintings explore the geometry of the circle, transforming the simple shape into complex abstractions. Carter references the domestic and the architectural; creating work that is both familiar and extraordinary. Hoover uses repetition and layering to convey the passage of time.

Studio*Mrmann was founded in 2005 by Geoffrey Mann , a Scottish product artist who transposes the ephemeral into the tangible through embracing the integration of digital media and the physical form. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2005, Mann's critically acclaimed Long Exposure and Natural Occurrence series have been exhibited Nationally and Internationally featuring at Design and the Elastic Mind MoMA New York, International Bombay Sapphire Glass prize 2005/2008 and Digitalability DesignMai Berlin.

Through synthesizing the temporal processes of movement, a recurrent theme throughout Mann's portfolio, he reconstructs pure sensation in objective terms through the notion ‘motion engendering form’ creating tangible objects of mysterious beauty.

Geoff has a degree in Glass and Ceramics from the RCA and was recently awarded the Jerwood Prize.
